Metroid: The Core World Legend is the previously
untold story of Samus Aran's desperate struggle to get the
last remaning Metroid to the Galactic Federation.
How it Began
The whole idea for a Metroid comic came about as the
excitement over the release of Metroid Prime was growing
back in the spring of 2002. I have loved the series from the
very beginning, all the way back to the days of the NES
and was always a bit discouraged by the lack of
enthusiasm Nintendo had for one of its most beloved
franchises. I wanted to flesh out that world and create a
story that would really bring the character of Samus Aran
out of the shadows. Since very little had been written
about Samus's character and her back story, the potential
was there to really make this story my own.
As I worked on character bios and began developing the overall plot, Nintendo started to actually
take the time to flesh out the series on its own. Samus now had a more official and complete back
story and events within the Metroid universe were given context. Now I hade a problem because
most of what Nintendo had presented as official canon contradicted almost everything I had been
working on. But as more Metroid games were released and more of the official Metroid info came to
light the more I realized that I hate the overall direction Nintendo is taking the franchise. The fact is I
like my rendition of the Metroid universe far more than the two dimensional stereotypical sci-fi
landscape that Nintendo has turned the series into, and I'm confident that most of the fans out there
will too.
The Plan
With this particular adventure taking place within the confines of a comic format, I really want it to
stand head and shoulders above the rest. With the art design, I wanted the look to be an accurate
representation of the Metroid universe and it's inhabitance but give it a more realistic tone and a
slightly harder edge. This point has become more important to me since the direction of the games
has become decidedly more cartoony over the last few years. I want this to be a world with a vast
history and a place that feels real, and lived in.
As for the story, allot of fans might take issue with the fact that my narrative is going to go against
much of what Nintendo has laid down. All I can say is too bad. The overall tone of my tale is much
darker, and Samus's past and future experiences will reflect that. The story is, at its heart, about
Samus confronting personal demons and past torments as well as discovering her true destiny and
what that means. One thing I wanted to make sure of is that Samus come across as a very hard
and unwavering character with next to no compassion for people that have little or nothing to offer
her. Don't forget that she is a bounty hunter and in my mind she's in it for the money and little else.
This will slowly change as the story progresses but as for the reasons, you'll just have to wait and
see.
Another thing I would like to point out, as I have already stated, the story of the Core World Legend
takes place between Metroid 2 and Super Metroid respectively. I have received flack from a few
concerned individuals that insist there is absolutely no way the time line permits anything
substantial to take place between the two games. All I can say is that their is virtually no info as to
how much time passes between Metroid 2 and Super, and for what I have planed story wise, it
works just fine.

And for the few of you out
there that have been

your interest and support!"
I promise this will be
finished one day and that it
will be damn good!
